Stage 1 Melbourne Chicago Madison

What a great trip with 15 of us.
long flight 27 hours. A few issues with some of the team having name problems ie Alfredo to Frank. Great, ribs when we arrived on Friday night then recovery. We saw all the architectural highlights of Chicago by bus and boat over the pent two days. Meals in the Hancock tower on Saturday night and chop house Sunday. Both great and enjoyed by all. We had a great team with us. Saturday night at buddy guys was excellent – a few went to bed early but they made up for it later on the trip. monday off to madison by bus but wait for it we had the shopperholics on board. 3 hours in the centre wasn’t enough. Paul went out to get lunch and half the bus disappeared again.
Arrived in Madison to a great sub-zero welcome from Edmund Schorr then off to dinner in he hotel.
Three days of solid training at the Bakke Centre with us all feeling most welcome. They are great hosts and breakfast lunch and dinners at the centre were fantastic.
The whole team were excited with the training and thanks to Andrew & Nadia for their organization.
Off to o’Hare airport on Friday and the team returning to Aus. Stage 1 over.

Sub-Zero Installation Out of level floor

We have just had an issue during the installation of the new Sub-Zero & Wolf Display at Kitchen HQ in Perth.  The installers started installing the cabinetry from the lowest point on the floor and trimmed the cabinet bases to the highest point.  By the time they reached that point, the opening for the ICBBI-48SD/O was too low.  Always check the level and start the install from the highest point or allow for it in the opening height of the cabinets.

Sub-Zero Built-in Installation & Tiling

Just a small tip the other day from one of our clients on installing a side by side overlay Built-in Sub-Zero.  Cabinets were all fine and to specification but when the refrigerator was installed it was discovered that the tiles rose up toward the rear of the refrigerator space.  Hence when the installer tried to adjust the face of the unit so that the built in panels were flush, the overhead cabinets were too close to allow for the front height adjusters to move the fridge upward.  Hence, always check the level of the flooring in the fridge space prior to installation particularly when ceramic tiles are laid.

Mulyflex is taking 14 sales staff from Winning, E & S and Kitchen HQ to Sub-Zero Wolf

Friday week and we all leave for a couple of days in Chicago to get over the flight and check out some of the wonderful architecture in the city.  Plus visiting some of the Frank Lloyd Wright creations.

Then on to Madison the home of Sub-Zero and Wolf.  During our time there we have intensive training on refrigerator integration and building-in.  Explanation of great features, including how dual compressors work, the advanced air purification system that scrubs the air every 20 minutes to remove ethylene gas to reduce spoilage.  Of course we get to taste wonderful food prepared by Wolf chefs on their entire range of ovens, dual fuel ranges, steamers, grills, fryers and wok units.  We can guarantee it will be a fantastic experience for all and the team will have greater knowledge on return.

Preparing for the 3000km Ride in Argentina through the Andes

With 10 days to go before leaving for the US and then Argentina to meet up with daughter Anna, my training for the ride is stepping up.  Was in Geelong to watch the UCI world cycling championships over the weekend.  Now that was motivating, 265kms for the mens road race in perfect conditions almost no wind and temp around 22deg C.  Davies won bronze with a storming finish and Cadel Evans worked hard throughout the whole race in support.

Managed 70kms Saturday across to Barwon Heads, riding the mountain bike with Michael McGuirk, an Australian legend.  We had great fun both during the ride and after.  Kew Boulevard this morning for a quick 30ks.  Managed to overtake a couple of road bikes – always fun when they see a mountain bike going past – the pace increases.

The trusty Cannondale is ready to go and bike boxes waiting for the long flight to the US.

Sub-Zero Built-in Refrigerators flush fitting to surrounding cabinets without handles

We have had a number of enquiries from architects, interior designers and cabinet makers about customising the refrigerator doors to match surrounding cabinetry but without protruding handles. Generally our advice is to have a protruding handle as it is easier and more secure to open, what can be a heavily laden door, ie with bottles and other dairy products. Our particular concern is with long finger nails and young children. A handle is much easier to grip. However, a specifier contacted us recently and designed a rebated edge on the overlay door front with a depth of around 30mm and running the full height of the door. We explained our concerns. The client understood but preferred the clean look of no protruding handles to match the rest of the kitchen.  Of course a handle can always be fitted afterward, should the rebated handle be too cumbersome.

Sub-Zero Built-in ICBBI-48SD/O Overlay Flush inset – Installation tip

Another query came in this morning from a cabinet maker who wanted to have a 20mm kicker on this fridge to match with a cabinet alongside.  Our specification is 102mm.  20mm is OK for ventilation as the air intake and out is at the top of this model.  However, the panel would interfere with the lower hinge.  We worked out that if the 19mm matching door panel was routed out to 7mm thick from the rear it could extend past the lower hinge and still allow adjustment.

Sub-Zero Built-in flush inset door hinge adjustment

As my first blog this is just a note on fitting a cabinet door to an ICBBI-42SD/O fridge freezer combination to be built in flush with surrounding cabinets and with matching cabinet doors.  The specified height of a cabinet door for these models is 1772mm, however, there is an adjusting screw on the lower hinge to accomodate a discreperancy.  This adjusting screw can also be used to level the doors once installed.
